The gum on my lower lip is coming away from my teeth, it’s painful to talk and eat and my teeth feel loose, is this treatable?

June 29th, 2012
Q.

The bit of my gum that is connected to my lower lip is severely coming away from my teeth. It did bleed when I brushed my teeth, but doesn’t anymore. However, it is extremely painful to talk and eat and is sore even when my mouth is closed. My teeth around this area are also slightly loose, and I have a constant bad taste in my mouth. I am fairly sure that it is gum disease but I was wondering if this is treatable, because I have read that if it gets too severe then the effects are irreversible

My gums bleed when I brush them could there be an underlying issue?

June 12th, 2012
Q.

Hello Doctor, I was wondering if you could help me with a problem to do with my gums. I went travelling to Australia about three years ago, while I was there, unfortunately I didn’t stick to a very good oral hygiene regime for the year I was there. I don’t have any fillings or rotten teeth, but I have noticed that when I brush my teeth, sometimes my gums bleed. I don’t brush especially hard and use a medium brush. I also use a sensitive mouthwash. Could this just be down to me brushing, or another underlying issue? Any feedback would be much appreciated, Thanks!

Should I have laser surgery treatment to get rid of periodontal disease?

June 12th, 2012
Q.

Hi there Jose! I was recently diagnosed with periodontal disease. I was told by my periodontist that laser surgery might be appropriate for my condition. I had a number of questions as I don’t know much about this type of treatment so my main concern was is it safe? Has this type of treatment been successful in the past? How long have they being using this type of treatment? Does it hurt? How many treatments on average to people need? How much does it cost? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

I think I could have Trench Mouth, is this disease serious?

June 12th, 2012
Q.

Hiya Dr Jose Zurdo, a few quick questions – I’ve recently developed very painful ulcers in my mouth and quite bad breath, I’m finding it very painful to brush my teeth and even eating. A friend told me it could be something known as Trench mouth or ANUG ? is this a real disease, i’ve never heard of it. My dentist can’t fit me in for a week or so, is there anything i can do to ease the pain? and if it is this disease is it very serious? Thank you.

I have a problem with bad breath and with no sign of gum disease I don’t know what’s causing this, any suggestions?

June 12th, 2012
Q.

Hiya, I have a problem with bad breath. It started when i was a teenager, I’ve never had a bad diet or bad hygene but i find about 20 or 30 minutes after brushinh and with out eating or drinking anything i get bad breath. It gets very embaressing. I tried chewing gum but i dont like it and is not allowed where i work? I feel like whatever i do i cant escape from this problem. Last time i went to the dentist he told me there was no signs of gum disease and just to floss and uses mouthwash but this hasn’t helped. Any suggestions?

How many visits to a periodontist would it take to clear gum disease?

June 12th, 2012
Q.

Hi,
I was first diagnosed with gum disease around four years ago. This has become advanced and has gradually got worse and I have had pus coming from the gum on several occasions and been given antibiotics. They are very painful constantly so I decided to visit another dentist who told me they would do no treatment while I had the gum disease and that it has caused bone loss and to visit a periodontist. I had initially visited to enquireabout having the teeth taken out and see whether I could have implants fitted instead. Could you please tell me how many visits to a periodontist it usually takes to clear the gum disease and could I have implants fitted to the affected area in future as these teeth originally had a bridge which has had the middle part removed to try and clear the gum disease. Thank you

Is there a way to stop gums from receding?

June 12th, 2012
Q.

My boyfriend is having a spot of trouble with his teeth and gums! I was just doing some research to find out what might be the problem and I came across this website. His gums seem to be receding on a few of his teeth top and bottom. He says they can become very sensitive sometimes but other times not. Is there a way to stop the gums from receding, or can you get a treatment for it? Will the gums grow back? He does brush and floss but he smokes, that probably hasn’t helped. Got any advice? Thanks Jose!
