I have a problem with bad breath and with no sign of gum disease I don’t know what’s causing this, any suggestions?

Q.
Hiya, I have a problem with bad breath. It started when i was a teenager, I’ve never had a bad diet or bad hygene but i find about 20 or 30 minutes after brushinh and with out eating or drinking anything i get bad breath. It gets very embaressing. I tried chewing gum but i dont like it and is not allowed where i work? I feel like whatever i do i cant escape from this problem. Last time i went to the dentist he told me there was no signs of gum disease and just to floss and uses mouthwash but this hasn’t helped. Any suggestions?

Hi there, thanks for your question… let’s see if I can resume the right info for you.
Most of the “bad breath” causes are orally located, 90% or so. This may include gingivitis, caries, wisdom teeth that cannot erupt properly and create “pockets” where food gets trapped, ill-fitted fillings/crowns, furry tongue specially if you can see a thick whitish coating on it. From here we need to check other locations like the tonsils, the throat, the nose (chronic sinusitis, post-nasal drip, etc.…), this is an ear for an ENT (Ear, Nose and Throat) specialist. There are other systemic conditions, which can promote a change of the breath.
If your dentist can exclude any potential oral cause (teeth, gums, tongue), then I recommend that you ask your GP to refer you to an ENT specialist to investigate other locations. I hope this can give you some more options to explore.
