When I stop using mouthwash my gums bleed and become sore, it feels like some areas are peeling, is this something to do with the mouthwash?

Q.
Hi dr, my gums are acting quite strange recently. well, i brush my teeth regularly and i use cordosyll mouthwash to prevent gum disease. i’ve noticed that when i stop using it my gums bleed and become sore. i’ve also noticed that the back of my mouth is sore and in two areas it feels as though my gums are peeling. is this something to do with the mouthwash? i’m not sure what to do because i am terrified of going to see someone about this problem. do you have any advice for me? thanks for your time.

Well, healthy gums do not bleed. The “gum peeling” could be a reaction to the prolonged use of Corsodyl, especially if it contains alcohol. There is one type of Corsodyl in the market without alcohol, switch to that to see if the “desquamation” ceases. The gum problems you describe will not be treated by the use of a mouthwash and you cannot prevent a disease, which you seem to have already clear symptoms. My best advise for you is to see your dentist for a gum screening/diagnosis. They should be able to tell you how your gums are at present, if this is just gingivitis, in which case it’s reversible and rather easy to treat, or if you are undergoing a phase of destructive gum disease, which means your teeth are loosing attachment and bone support.
