Hi, I need your opinion and help on a problem I am having. I have neen told I need work doing around the base of one of my teeth but the dentist said in order to do that a small slither of gum is going have to be cut, you know like a flap. This sounds barbaric to me and i wnder f there is another way to carry it out. I hope you know know of the procedure I am talking about. If you are i want to know, not only if there is another way, but how this will affect my gum tissue? when i was young I had gingivitus and my gums bled a lot then, this has gone now but I dontwant anything like that happeniing again? thanks Dr

At 13 is it normal to have gum disease and what should I do?

Hello Dr Ian Dunn and I am twelve years old and thirteen in April. My dentist has just told me I have gum disease, severe gum disease to the lower mouth. I have two questions: is it normal for someone my age to get gum disease? And what can I do to treat it and prevent getting it again? I know there is already information on this website but I really need some advice. To be honest I’m scared.

Can gum disease develop over night?

Can tooth abscess/ tooth ache cause gum disease? As I am having tooth abscess and waiting for a root canal treatment that will take place next Friday. Last Wednesday my dentist told me that I have gum disease and that tooth will need to be extracted. She never mentioned that even the day before ( Tues.) when I came to see her about swelling under my tongue. Can gum disease develop over night? I do have good oral hygiene. This tooth has large filling ( done 3 years ago) and had been very sensitive since late Dec., more to cold than hot. Then in late Jan. it became very sensitive to hot/even warm water. Then I experienced terrible tooth ache and now that the tooth is death, and I am having abscess. I do not recall that my gum bleed after brushing.

I’m only 17 and my gums’s bleed excessively when I brush, what should I do?

My gum’s start bleeding excessively when I’m brushing my teeth, when I floss dirt comes out. I’m only 17, and this started 1 week ago. I’m getting really scared, I have started to eat healthy food now. I’m really afraid that my teeth will fall out at a young age. I’ve been trying to contact a dentist but there’s a lot of appointments already in waiting, what should I do in the meantime?

I think I’ve all but treated my gum disease but are the light patched of gum going to be problematic?

HI Ian, ,I have noticed recently that I have relly light patches above my teeth in my gums. it looks like the gum is really stretched over the tooths rooth sort of thing? my gums have receded a little bit I think as the little triangle bits either side of my front right incisor have gone. this is the only place they have done so and I think I may have halted any further progress with excellent oral hygiene including a check up and hygienist clean at the dentist since I noticed. I feel like I’ve done ll I can in the mean time but could the lighter patches of gum be problematic? thanks for your time Dr it is appreciated.

Is there a link between gum disease and heart attacks?

Hi, as a child I suffered a lot of heart palpitations and received a lot of advice on how to prevent them and have a ‘healthy heart’ in order to help. however recently I wondered, is there an established link with gum disease and heart attacks? I heard comment of this on TV recently? cheers

My gums even bleed when I brush softly and there’s gaps appearing between my teeth?

Everytime I brush my teeth my gums start to bleed even when brushing softly. I have also noticed where the there are tiny gaps starting to form in between my teeth. Can you please advise me on what I can do to prevent this as it is becoming a serious concern.

I have a black triangle between my front teeth, could this be the start of gum disease?

i have recently noticed in the last few weeks that i have a black triangle i think its called between my two front teeth. i do try to take care of my teeth and this black triangle at first glance looks like plaque or that i dont care for my teeth i hate the fact that its there. I started using an electric toothbursh probablty more vigorously than i should, but im not sure if this has anything to do with it, could it be the start of gum disease? What are the standard ways of this being solved yet can’t physically afford it to go further. by the way i am only 17 and so i cant really spend any money on getting this solved if possible. I seem to have gingivitis and wear braces, what can I do?

I seem to have Gingivitis gum disease, i have bleeding gums after i brush my teeh and i also have swollen gums all the time which are very tender which pressure is applied, i was wondering if there was any medication to help my problem as i am a young adult and is very embarrsing when i talk because i have such small teeth now from where the gums have been swollen, i also wear braces and was wondering if that was the problem also i have tryed using corsodyl.

I believe I have gum disease but I have no dentist. Any advice?

I believe i have gum disease. The bottom gum bleeds and is really sore. The gum seems to have started to come away from the tooth. I am really scared and dont no what to do because i have no dentist. I have started cleaning teeth twice a day, would that help. I am seeing the doctor monday to see if he can get me anything is there anything i should get or help to make it better please.
