I’m only 17 and my gums’s bleed excessively when I brush, what should I do?

Q.
My gum’s start bleeding excessively when I’m brushing my teeth, when I floss dirt comes out. I’m only 17, and this started 1 week ago. I’m getting really scared, I have started to eat healthy food now. I’m really afraid that my teeth will fall out at a young age. I’ve been trying to contact a dentist but there’s a lot of appointments already in waiting, what should I do in the meantime?

Hi, Sorry to hear of such problems at such a young age! I’d say in the meantime, stick to your cleaning regime three minutes, twice a day and keep the dental appointment when it is your turn. You could also try adding mouthwash to your oral hygiene exercises but at a different time to brushing such as just after dinner, This could be gingivitis and may not be full blown gum disease in which case the symptoms could subside within 7-10 days but expect bleeding up until the 3rd/4th day.
