Should I be worried about gum recession and black areas between my teeth?

Hi Dr Zurdo, I  hope your well. I came to see you last year in january. I have noticed I have gum recession on one of my lower molars at the front. Also I noticed that on one of my upper tooths I have developed a black triangle after seeing my local dentist he has said I have nothing to worry about in regards to the black triangle. Also in regards gum recession can this result in immediate tooth loss. According to my dentist this was caused by aggressive brushing. I would like to hear from you.

AreI there another methods of cleaning teeth other than a deep clean?

my mother has had surgery 3 years ago for mouth cancer and she wears an orbitrator which is anchored to her remaining 3 teeth which have recently become very loose. She attends regular dental appts and has been advised to have a deep clean to try and save the loose teeth. She has had this treatment before and it was very painful taking about 1 hour. She would like to know if there are alternative ways of saving her teeth or a non painful method of deep cleaning. At the moment she feels by having the cleaning it will loosen the teeh more quickly and she is unsure what would happen if she could not anchor the orbitrator as she is not able to eat or speak without it being in place. She is 81 years of age and never smoked and does not drink. Any advice would be welcome before her appt on 6.3.12 best regards….

Can a common cold instigate gum disease or inflammation of the gums?

Hi Doctor. I’m worried that my mouth will be in a state of disrepair this winter and I know that sounds silly but allow me. a few days ago I came down with a reall bad cold and I’m worried that that may impact on the health of my teeth/gums. what I want to know is whether or not gum disease can be instigated/contracted as a side effect if you will of the common cold? my jaw muscles really ache and this makes me kind of teeeth if you get me, makes me tense my jaw- clasping my jaw shut, to try and resist the aching temporarily. I was wondering whether this could cause irritation to my gums or something? it sounds fair fetched but it better to be safe than sorry and ask an expert, as far as I’m aware my gums are in fine condition at the present and I don’t want that to change.

I have swollen gums, is this a sign of gum disease?

I looked on your website and it says that swollen gums are a sign of gum disease so I decided to contact you right away about a potential issue that I have with my gums. I dont know if my gums are technically swollen or not as they are mostly tight but if i have a swollen line as such running along the gum line would you say that was inflammation and therefore a sign of gum disease or is it just the way the gum has fallen? to give you an idea it looks like carpet against the wall, as in the whole face is OK but the edge has just lapped up a bit? it mainly occurs around the site of my upper right and left canine but its just about visible around some other teeth.

My husband has a blood blister inside his cheek and dark gums, what could this be?

My Husband has a large blood blister in his mouth inside the cheek. He also has darkening of the gums. Do you know what this could be? He has a lot of ploblems with his teeth and one tooth needs to come out asap anyway.

My gums bleed after brushing, should I be worried?

I clean and floss everyday yet my gums are bleeding, what can I do?

I’m only 19 and in the past few days i’ve noticed that my gums bleed when i brush as well as when floss. I always clean my teeth twice a day and floss everyday also. I have also noticed that one of my teeth appears to have gotten longer but i havn’t ever really paid attention to/noticed it before so i dont know if this has been sudden or not.
Is this likely to result in gum disease or is it more likely that i brush my teeth too hard day in day out?!

Can I use manuka honey to treat my gum disease?

hi i have been told by my dentist that i have periodontisr gum disease after several visits to the dentist hygienist (with no real results)i have now been referred to an”expert” in the field, i would like to know ur thoughts on manuka honey and its anti bacterial effect on gum disease as a possible cure seeing as trips to the dentists are having no effect, would greatly appreciate ur thoughts on the matter ,thankyou.
