Should I be worried about gum recession and black areas between my teeth?

Q.
Hi Dr Zurdo, I  hope your well. I came to see you last year in january. I have noticed I have gum recession on one of my lower molars at the front. Also I noticed that on one of my upper tooths I have developed a black triangle after seeing my local dentist he has said I have nothing to worry about in regards to the black triangle. Also in regards gum recession can this result in immediate tooth loss. According to my dentist this was caused by aggressive brushing. I would like to hear from you.
A.
Well, the black triangle is just a space that develops between the teeth, normally after gum treatment. This spaces appears because there has been some degree of bone loss underneath, after gum treatment and reduction of the inflammation on the tissues, the healthier gum comes closer to the bone, leaving the space between teeth empty. This is actually welcome as it means that the inflammation is gone and now it’s easier to use an adequate size of interdental brush to keep bacteria and this inflammation away.
Gum recession does not lead to immediate tooth loss at all!! You will need to change the brushing technique to minimize the risk of further gum recession. Please talk about this next time you see your dentist/hygienist. If you still have doubts, do not hesitate to see me again for a quick chat.
