My husband has a blood blister inside his cheek and dark gums, what could this be?

Q.
My Husband has a large blood blister in his mouth inside the cheek. He also has darkening of the gums. Do you know what this could be? He has a lot of ploblems with his teeth and one tooth needs to come out asap anyway.
Pleas let us know. Thanks
A.
It is actually quite common to get an occasional irritation or even a bump on the inside of the cheeks. Sometimes we bite our cheeks without knowing it, and a blister would form (blood blister). Nevertheless there are several dental, oral and general conditions that can cause blisters in the mouth. If the blister persists for more than a week or recurs your husband should see your dentist or GP seeking treatment after further investigation of the cause. The darkening of the gums can be caused by an underlying inflammation, possibly gum disease, but again this only can be confirmed with a thorough examination. If he is having some problems with his teeth his dentist should be able to identify whether the findings that you mentioned are related to his dental problems or not and if necessary refer him for specialist opinion.
