I have a black triangle between my front teeth, could this be the start of gum disease?

February 21st, 2012
Q.

i have recently noticed in the last few weeks that i have a black triangle i think its called between my two front teeth. i do try to take care of my teeth and this black triangle at first glance looks like plaque or that i dont care for my teeth i hate the fact that its there. I started using an electric toothbursh probablty more vigorously than i should, but im not sure if this has anything to do with it, could it be the start of gum disease? What are the standard ways of this being solved yet can’t physically afford it to go further. by the way i am only 17 and so i cant really spend any money on getting this solved if possible. Many thanks for your time

How do I stop myself losing more teeth?

December 23rd, 2011
Q.

Dear Experts I am very anxious and a bit depressed about loosing one of the very front teeth on my bottom jaw. For ages it has been a bit wobbly from time to time and slowly moving upwards and upwards to the point where the tooth had to be cut down by my dentist to keep it in line with the others. for a couple of years there has been a deep fissure in the gum directly below the tooth/ my dentist seemd very relaxed about it and said we could try to keep it going as long as possible, so I did not worry. Recently I have been very stressed for several months and forgotten to be so rigorous with the cleaning of that area. the tooth came out with no blood or hole. I have now have sudenly become aware of how the neighbouring teeth each have very little gum each on the missing gum side. while the rest of my mouth has a couple of mm gum recession it is far worse around the front 3 teeth. I am very worried about a denture. Is it likely that a gum graft could help to support these neighbouring teeth and stop them from following suit? My NHS dentist have never mentioned periontal disease, so I was unaware of the problem as there was never any bleeding. ive now looked at lots of dental sites on the internet and am horrified at what i didnt know and what i could have avoided. MAny Thanks for any light you could shed on stopping any further tooth loss. Many Thanks for your help.

My gums have receded and revealed a ‘notch in my tooth’, do I have gum disease?

December 22nd, 2011
Q.

Hi there, I am 25 years old. Recently, I have noticed that the gums at the tops of my teeth appear to be wearing away slightly and there is now a ‘notch’ between the top of my tooth and the gumline. I don’t have any real pain but some sensitivity when I brush. Also, the top part of my tooth seems to be a slightly different colour to the original tooth. I visited a dentist and he advised me that this was ‘nothing to worry about and probably from overbrushing’ but that it seemes ‘slightly worse than normal for people of my age’. I’m still concerned and looking for further answers and solutions. Is there anything I can do to help this, prevent it from worsening, or even reverse it? and do you think this could be gum disease? Many thanks

I think my gums are receding, can you help?

December 1st, 2011
Q.

Hi there Dr Zurdo I am a little worried that I may have gum recession but I cannot tell whether this is the case or not. I have noticed over the last couple of weeks that I have a few small gaps appearing around my front teeth right where the gum would normally come to a point between them. also my right incisor looks a little too long. normally I would just conclude that this was happening but I have recently been to the dentists and following that I have been to the hygienists. none of them have mentioned that this is happening and when I asked them they said yhh it does look a bit enflamed in these areas, hurt like hell when she was scaling around these areas with the water jet as well! I am not sure but how can i keep track of it or evenn stop it occuring Dr? it really worries me and your feedback would be priceless, thanks.

Can gum disease also damage my teeth?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

hi there I have a question regarding gum disease and its effects. you may have to correct me if any of this is wrong to confirm with me- I know it’s called gum disease because its primary problem areas lie with the gums, inflammation, bleeding and gum destruction. my first question is 1) is there a difference between gum recession and gum destruction? and 2) can ‘gum’ disease affect the teeth? the problem is that I think my gums have receded/been destroyed if there is a difference, but tiny gaps have started to appear between my teeth not where the gum was but most of the way down the sides of my teeth. if these are both signs of gum disease what can I do to stop and reverse the process or id this not possible?

My gums are receding but my dentist says I don’t have gum disease, can that happen?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

I have noticed my gums receeding at an alarming rate, I first noticed it last year after using several home teeth whitening kits. I went to the dentist who said I did not have gum disease and it was part of the ageing process but I am only 38 years old. I only clean my teeth with a sonic care tooth brush and floss regulary but I have noticed that certain things I do make it worse like brushing too much and using whitening tooth paste.
Hope you can help
