Will my gum disease reoccur?

Q.
I’av just been to see my dentist and he said that I have intermediary gum disease and he will need to clean all four gum quadrants before doing an implant. Also, he says that I may lose another tooth due to the gum disease but may be able to save it. I have a couple of questions if you don’t mind. Does gum disease reoccur once you have already had it? Is it safe to get an implant if you have had recent gum disease? I am trying to find out these things now as I have had botched dental work done in the past, including having several teeth removed which did not need to be removed resulting in an infection, resulting in gum decay. Anyhow, I am trying to improve my mouth the best I can. Thank you for any answers you can provide.

Gum disease is chronic in nature and your susceptibility will remain unchanged over the years meaning that gum disease can potentially reappear if you do not keep a high level of home and professional care. Nevertheless once you reach a healthy and stable state it is relatively easy to maintain. If you respond well to the gum treatment implants can be placed safely and they can be as predictable as when they are placed in people without any history of gum disease but it is important that you are regularly monitored.
