I have developed a Stillman’s cleft and could lose a tooth, what should I do?

March 30th, 2012
Q.

Hi
My gum has receeded and my dentist has said a cleft has developed .Sorry I can’t remember the name of the cleft but it was named after someone so you probably know what I mean. When I saw him he put some kind of glue over my gum and tooth to try to get the gum to reattach . This had to be left on foe 24 hours and he told me to go back to see him in 2 weeks. The glue does not appear to have made any difference and my gum is very painful and is a white colour and the tooth seems even more exposed. I am worried that I will end up loosing my tooth it is right at the front so I really do not want that to happen. Do you think I need to go back to my dentist sooner than he suggested ? I read on your web site about a graft is this something any dentist can do or only a specialist? and should my dentist know about this proceedure? I am concerned because he told me unless the gum reattached I would loose my tooth. I look forward to recieving some advise from you.

Should I be worried about gum recession and black areas between my teeth?

March 26th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Zurdo, I  hope your well. I came to see you last year in january. I have noticed I have gum recession on one of my lower molars at the front. Also I noticed that on one of my upper tooths I have developed a black triangle after seeing my local dentist he has said I have nothing to worry about in regards to the black triangle. Also in regards gum recession can this result in immediate tooth loss. According to my dentist this was caused by aggressive brushing. I would like to hear from you.

I need a mouth overhaul, will gum disease stop me?

January 11th, 2012
Q.

hello i have gum disease, as as such am losing a tooth at the front Left had side. My other 3 front top teeth are also crooked, and my question is, would you advise a brace that would fill the gap where my tooth that is loose would be, or would you advise an implant for the missing tooth and cerec or composite veneers for the other teeth? My overcrowding on the other 3 teeth, could they be fixed with a dental putty rather than a veneer, or is that exactly what a veneer is anyway? where my tooth is loose my gum has receded into a kind of inverted ^ shape. Instead of relying on gum restoration could it be stitched together to encourage growth and lessen the appearance of the gap? thanks

How do I stop myself losing more teeth?

December 23rd, 2011
Q.

Dear Experts I am very anxious and a bit depressed about loosing one of the very front teeth on my bottom jaw. For ages it has been a bit wobbly from time to time and slowly moving upwards and upwards to the point where the tooth had to be cut down by my dentist to keep it in line with the others. for a couple of years there has been a deep fissure in the gum directly below the tooth/ my dentist seemd very relaxed about it and said we could try to keep it going as long as possible, so I did not worry. Recently I have been very stressed for several months and forgotten to be so rigorous with the cleaning of that area. the tooth came out with no blood or hole. I have now have sudenly become aware of how the neighbouring teeth each have very little gum each on the missing gum side. while the rest of my mouth has a couple of mm gum recession it is far worse around the front 3 teeth. I am very worried about a denture. Is it likely that a gum graft could help to support these neighbouring teeth and stop them from following suit? My NHS dentist have never mentioned periontal disease, so I was unaware of the problem as there was never any bleeding. ive now looked at lots of dental sites on the internet and am horrified at what i didnt know and what i could have avoided. MAny Thanks for any light you could shed on stopping any further tooth loss. Many Thanks for your help.

Despite regular check ups and dentist assurance, I have lost teeth and am about to loose more! Can you help me?

October 21st, 2011
Q.

I visited a dentist for 4 years and went every 6 months for a check up.He told me my teeth were perfect. I changed to another dentist and he advised that i had gum disease – peridontal. I was first given the root cleaning treatment 4 times which was agony. No anasthetic allowed i was told. Since then to my extreme distress I have had to have 10 teeth removed. I visit every3 months and again am getting the root cleaning treatment this week and a further one next week. I use corsodyl toothpaste, mouthwash and the small brushes for cleaning. I feel that thinks are not getting better. I wake up in morning with bad breath and during day my mouth tastes awful. I can feel movement in another tooth. What more can i do. Can you give me any advice. Thanks

I do not smoke and have a good diet, so why do I have bleeding gums?

July 12th, 2011
Q.

Every time i brush my teeth my gums bleed and have done for years. I have a good diet, non smoker.
Do bleeding gums always indicate gum disease or could there be another answer to bleeding gums?
Thank you
