My mum has gum disease, will i get it too?

Q.
Today my mum went to our dentist and she got told that she’s at the start of getting gum disease. But she doesn’t smoke and eatings plenty of fruit and vegetables and only buys sweets for me and my sister so doesn’t eat any for herself. This has made me wonder
1. Because she has gum disease will I get it? I’m not sure if this is how it works. 2. How do I prevent getting it if this is the case and I am likely to get it?
3. How do you cure it because Idon#t want it!?
Thanks alot for your time, btw I’am only 13

The susceptibility to get some aggressive forms of gum disease can be hereditary but the susceptibility to the most common forms of gum disease is individual. In any case it is caused by plaque and the way to prevent it is to have a consistently good oral hygiene and see regularly your dentist who can monitor your gums and if necessary carry out removal of hidden plaque if necessary.
