I have white spots on my gums, do I have gum disease?

Q.
I go to the dentist for a check up every year and she hasn’t mentioned anything about gum disease too me. However I think that I might have it because all over my gums at front theres tiny white spots covering them. Please could you tell me what are the symptoms of gum disease, also what kind of treatments are there?
A.
The most common symptoms of gum disease are bleeding on brushing, sometimes tenderness when biting and in advanced cases tooth mobility. Nevertheless, it is not rare to experience significant gum disease without any symptoms. White spots on the gums are not usually related to gum disease (caused by plaque) but may be associated with other conditions of the mouth unrelated to plaque. You need an adequate diagnosis of your condition. Your dentist should be able to identify whether you have gum disease (bone loss and pocketing under the gums) or refer you to a specialist in Oral Medicine if your white spots persist despite having healthy gums.
