What can I do for my receding gums?

Q.
Hi i am 28 years old and have got really bad receding gums. which is the best treatment apart from surgery and where in london would you reccomend to go?
A.
You will see from previous answers that there are a number of different causes of gum recession and it is important to get the diagnosis right prior to treatment.

If your recession is caused by underlying gum disease then there are a num er of non-surgical options for you together with improving your home care.

If the recession is not realted to gum disease then your options are:
1) Surgery to correct this
2) Bonding of a pink filling material over the exposed root surface- this needs to be done with great care to prevent it making things worse
3) If severe, the recession can be covered with a removable prosthetic gum
4) do nothing but alter your cleaning regime to a less traumatic cleaning technique.

I am not in a position to give you a recommendation here. I would discuss this with your general dentist and if they cannot help then ask for a referral to a Periodontist.
