What are my options to replace my receding gums?

Q.
Iav just recovered from server gum disease meaning that my condition is now stable, and my gums have receeded a fair bit. So my questions are how to I stop my gum getting any worse? Can I do any thing I can do to make my gums grow back? If not can I get anything like false gums? My mouth looks horrid now and I would love it to look nice again

Great news that you have now stabilised you gum disease. The gum recession is an inevitable part of the healing process of gum disease due to the loss of support for the gum tissues caused by the bone loss.

If you have stabilised you gum health and continue to maintain excellent oral hygiene and see a dental professional (dentist/therapist/hygienist) every 3 months for professional cleaning (maintenance) then you should not experience any further gum recession.

Regarding growing gums back, this has been tried in various guises but is always unsuccessful so I am afraid that you gum position cannot be reversed.

Regarding false gums, there are a number of options. The old fashioned technique involved using hard denture acrylic. Whilst they looked okay, they were not very stable or comfortable. There is a newer option that uses a pink silicone based material that is very comfortable and very retentive, my patients tell me they can eat in them without problems. Because the material is flexible it has tags that fit into the spaces causes by the gum disease. They look great and allow you to take them out to clean your teeth. The flexible gum frames your teeth the way that you gums used to and I am sure you would be really happy with the appearance.
