I’ve Been Told That Nothing Can Be Done About My Gum Disease. Is This Correct?

November 4th, 2013
Q.

I have had terrible pain in the upper and lower right side of my mouth in the gums and teeth for around 3 weeks and have been taking painkillers everyday to alleviate the pain. I have visited my dentist in the beginning and she has booked me in on Tuesday for a deep clean as she says it is tartar build up. I have had it confirmed that I have gum disease but have been told there is nothing that can be done. I am 45, I do not smoke, I brush and floss regularly and use Corsodyl daily. What worries me is that the pain is not confined to one tooth are but is the whole right side go my mouth.

I’m a nervous patient and scheduled in for a deep clean of my teeth and gums, what is involved in this?

Q.

Hiya Jose, I’m quite a nervous patient at the dentist if I’m honest, always have been, always will be! I am scheduled in for a deep clean of my teeth and gums. I didn’t think my teeth were in that bad condition, but it turns out otherwise? I can’t actually see any rotting but will it be the build up in between my teeth? I wasn’t sure if the dentist was trying to trick me? What actually is involved in a deep clean? Does it hurt? Hope you will give me some good news! Thanks!

Hi, I need your opinion and help on a problem I am having. I have neen told I need work doing around the base of one of my teeth but the dentist said in order to do that a small slither of gum is going have to be cut, you know like a flap. This sounds barbaric to me and i wnder f there is another way to carry it out. I hope you know know of the procedure I am talking about. If you are i want to know, not only if there is another way, but how this will affect my gum tissue? when i was young I had gingivitus and my gums bled a lot then, this has gone now but I dontwant anything like that happeniing again? thanks Dr

AreI there another methods of cleaning teeth other than a deep clean?

February 22nd, 2012
Q.

my mother has had surgery 3 years ago for mouth cancer and she wears an orbitrator which is anchored to her remaining 3 teeth which have recently become very loose. She attends regular dental appts and has been advised to have a deep clean to try and save the loose teeth. She has had this treatment before and it was very painful taking about 1 hour. She would like to know if there are alternative ways of saving her teeth or a non painful method of deep cleaning. At the moment she feels by having the cleaning it will loosen the teeh more quickly and she is unsure what would happen if she could not anchor the orbitrator as she is not able to eat or speak without it being in place. She is 81 years of age and never smoked and does not drink. Any advice would be welcome before her appt on 6.3.12 best regards….
