I’ve Been Told That Nothing Can Be Done About My Gum Disease. Is This Correct?

Q.
I have had terrible pain in the upper and lower right side of my mouth in the gums and teeth for around 3 weeks and have been taking painkillers everyday to alleviate the pain. I have visited my dentist in the beginning and she has booked me in on Tuesday for a deep clean as she says it is tartar build up. I have had it confirmed that I have gum disease but have been told there is nothing that can be done. I am 45, I do not smoke, I brush and floss regularly and use Corsodyl daily. What worries me is that the pain is not confined to one tooth are but is the whole right side go my mouth.

Hello, thank you for getting in touch. First, I think you should see how the deep clean works for you. If the gum disease doesn’t subside along with the pain then seek a second opinion with a specialist. If you do not smoke, have you considered whether it could be something within your diet that could have caused these problems?  I wish you the best of luck regarding this matter. Thank you.
