How can i get rid of it? what should i do? Do you think its a cancer?
A.
Hello, there are several conditions that affect the oral mucosa (gums, cheeks, lining of lips), which appear as “white” patches, sometimes with erosions, which can be painful, sometimes it’s just a thickening of the tissues. Many of these conditions are difficult to identify, they may relate to auto-immune responses (our defense cells attack our own cells not recognizing the “self”). Most of these are benign lesions, which can be controlled by corticoids, but are very hard to cure. You may need to check with your dentist again, or request a referral to an Oral Medicine department at a Dental Hospital, or a Maxilo-facial surgeon. You may need a biopsy to aid on the right diagnosis. But I would not think of cancer in the first instance.
