My top teeth feel a little wobbly, should I be worried?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi,

I have recently seen a dentist despite not seeing him for 8-10 years as I suffer from extreme health anxiety which leaves me incapacitated. During this period i had the odd bleeding gums during brushing but nothing extreme, no pain etc. When I saw the dentist last month he said everything looked great and that my teeth and gums were fine- no disease or fillings needed.

Heres the problem, im worried that my front top teeth are mobile (only a little and only when i bite on them). The dentist assured me they were not mobile, but I have trust issues and am convinced that I have gum disease. Could there be something he’s missing or do I need a second opinion?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Dear Jose

I have been treated for grinding my teeth and wear a gum shield at night. Recently I have been having discomfort in my front lower teeth and my dentist has said that I have sensitive teeth, but I have dark spots on my gums a regular nasty taste in my mouth and soreness in my cheeks and receding gums which my dentist has said is caused by overbrushing – can you please advise me on what you think is wrong with my teeth

Thank you

I have developed ulcers and have bad breath, do I have gum disease?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hello Jose. I have an embarrassing problem. I’m a 19 year old girl. My gums have always bled slightly when brushing but recently ive developed about 5 mouth ulcers, 1 on my lip about 1cm! its too painful to talk sometimes. I brush but im put off my appetite and can taste what feels like disgusting breath. i dont know if this is consequent to my ulcers but my teeth are aching a little too. also, maybe it is relevant to tell you that i am on the contraceptive pill and i have a hormonal deficiency. Darent talk to anyone about this! Thanks

Have I contracted gum disease after wearing a brace? If so what should I do?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Doctor Zurdo I have got gum disease and it’s been prevalent since I was eighteen and had my brace removed, I must have caught it whilst I was wearing it though I did try to not make this the case. I am now 21 and though the spontaneous bleeding has stopped they are still irritable and bleed at any inclination of contact, so a bristle of the toothbrush can make the gums bleed just by giving them a nasty look! chomping on an apple which my teeth sink all the way into results in bleeding. I have tried to eradicate this with regular brushing etc. what would you recommend to stop this happening? secondly however do you think this could have caused any long term/lasting damage to my gums being as I have just entered my third year or so of having it? thank you in advance Dr

I may have gum disease, would this affect me getting braces?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Helloo Dr Dunn, I want to get braces but am not sure if I have gum disease. I personally would have thought that this would have been an issue firstly what is your take on this? secondly my teeth only bleed when I brush them and even that is in the one spot near my left upper canine, I just thought that Id been brushing to hard but I came out the bathroom and my mum spotted it and joked saying that I might have gingivitis,I tried to find out what else I should look out for and my breath doesn’t smell and I have none of the other symptoms expressed on this site other than the bleeding on brushing? what would you say about both this and getting braces now? thanks?

How long does it take to get rid of gingivitis?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi Dr.- I was told a few years ago by my hygienist that I had gingivitis. back then I was in my first year at college and constantly had problems with my gums randomly bleeding without provocation/irritation. It happened once when I was riding my moped, I had to pull over and swill water and wait until it stopped. anyway after that, unwittingly i didnt visit the dentist for a further two years (four college/academic years). This was my fault as I had serious concerns over my future and didnt think for anything other than college and Uni etc. anyway I have very little problems with my gums, they rarely bleed now which has to be good, they look better. I had stepped up my oral hygiene a bit and they hygeinist the other week said that I just had a bit of mild inflammation around one tooth which I can get rid of easily and will keep up dental appointments, what I want to know is how long does it take to get rid of gum disease? based on what you yourself have treated? cheers

Can pneumonia be linked to gum disease?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi, my aunt recently fell ill, she’s OK no but it has happened before and we think it may be mild cases of pneumonia. I know these things happen when your slightly older but the other day I noticed that her teeth were all a mess, I’m not criticising, she should probably have had dentures a long time ago. her gums were really red- and to be honest I always past her bad breath of as being old! terrible. I think though she could potentially have gum disease which wouldn’t be at all nice and probably wouldn’t get eradicated at this point in her life. I was wondering if you have ever heard of cases whereby gum disease was linked to pneumonia, and how far would you say is to far gone for teeth and gum disease (as to whether they would be salvageable or not? what should I consider, how wobbly they are or what?). thank you Dr Jose, I appreciate you taking the time to read and consider this.

I have scars that disappear and reappear after surgery, are any of these problems gum disease associated?

November 2nd, 2011
Q.

I have scars on my gums lower jaw(left) as a result of surgical wisdom teeth extraction. They keep on appearing and disappearing. It usually happens when my lower lip starts twicthing involuntarily.(Same sidea) I wasput on various neuropathic drugs such as lyrica, neuorotin, cymbalta, tegretol, celebrax. Duregesic patches, rivotril, tegrotol and so many others but nothing seem to ease the pain. It satarted in 2007 up to now. I used kelannog to apply but I only get temporal relief. I underwent all blood tests from aids to oral cancern, nothing came positive. Am not diabetic, a bit hypertensive due to those drugs but not chronic.
