What is the best type of tooth paste and brush to use?

Q.
Jose, I am very worried about my gums and teeth, i never used to be that fussed, recently i’ve just developed a real obsession. In your opinion what type of brush and toothpaste is the best on the market at the minute? I see so many adverts all saying that they clean deeper and better than the others, but i just wanted an experts opinion. I use a cavity protection paste at the minute and just a normal brush with no special bristles! Thanks!

Hi, there are indeed many brands and it’s marketing WAR out there!!
My advice is always to use a fluoridated toothpaste (98% of them are).
There is no scientific evidence for superiority of a brand (or special composition) in relation to another. I can give you my personal choice of paste and that is Colgate Total. As for brushes I’d recommend one with a slighter smaller head (for easy access to molar teeth), and soft/medium in hardness, again I’m very found of an electric toothbrush with a round “oscillating” head. This is my personal option, but as I said, no science is behind it.
Dental health and cavity prevention is more about balancing (reducing) sugars from your diet, provide daily fluorides to the enamel, and reduce dental plaque by using an efficient tooth brushing technique, not so much the brand of paste and brush. I hope this may be of help.
