The gums around my wisdom teeth are looser than my other gums, is this normal?

Q.
hello doctor

I was just wondering if you could help me. I have noticed that the gums at the very back of my mouth aren’t completely attached to my teeth. To be honest i do have wisdom teeth there, so i don’t know whether I am over-reacting or anything, but i just though it would be best to get the opinion of an expert such as yourself.

Do you think i have anything to worry about?

many thanks

A.
Hello, the area of wisdom teeth can many times present very little or no “firm” gum, instead, wisdom teeth may be surrounded by a “weaker” kind of tissue we call oral mucosa. This tissue may easily be “pulled” out from the tooth and is not as efficient in protecting the tooth from food impaction and bacterial down growth. You should ask your dentist about this as it can also be related to localized gum disease.Hope this helps and good luck!
