One of my teeth has fallen out due to a gum problem but I suffer from dental phobia. What can I do?

Q.
I have a problem with receding gums. One of my front teeth has fallen out. I think i may have gum problems that require antibiotics. My question is can my gp give me this kind of antibiotic or do i need to see a dentist? I have a phobia of dentists so do not have a dentist because they get fed up of me not turning up or doing a runner. I have done a runner whilst having an xray. This may give you an idea of how bad my phobia is. Please advise. Thanks.

Your doctor can give you any antibiotics that a dentist would but they are only a short term measure and if they could be given and coupled with some form of periodontal treatment, then you would get significantly more benefit. By the sounds of it you need to find a practice that specialises in the treatment of nervous patients and ideally under IV sedation. Finding the right dentist sounds like it is the key to getting you sorted here. Good luck with this.
