Q.
Hi, Dr Jose Zurdo. I am having a problem with my teeth that I need help with. Basically my teeth are breaking apart across the bottom 5 front teeth at the back. This is down by the gumms. Is this gum disease and whats best to treat. I brush my teeth regular and also use mouth wash. thank you

Hi, thanks for your query- I am sorry to hear about it. Gum disease affects the supporting tissues surrounding the root of the tooth, which is under the gum. It does not affect the structure of the visible part of the tooth. If your teeth are breaking apart over the gum margin but they are not loose and your gums do not bleed your problem may be related to other causes such as caries lesions or grinding that are the most common. You should visit your dentist to assess your problem and discuss alternative treatments. I hope this goes a little way towards helping you get the help you need. Regards, Dr Jose Zurdo
