I’ve just had new crowns, I’m suffering with inflammation around the margins and my gums are swollen and tender. I believe this is to do with the invasion of the biological width. Do you have any suggestions on what to do?

Q.
Hello I’m from Toronto, Canada. I have new crowns and inflamation around the margins, gums are swolen and tender.dentist violeted biological width and my crowns are deep in the bone, I’m looking for not traditional treatment,if you know what the best treatment when there is not much gums and crowns are too deep under the gums
any specialists using your method here in canada.
where are you located? Thank you.
A.
If your problem is what your dentist described as invasion of the biological width (crown margins too close to the bone) the tenderness and swelling of your gums are completely unrelated to plaque and therefore the adequate treatment is not about dealing with the plaque but about re-establishing adequate biological width dimensions. This may require making new crowns with less deep margins or surgical reshaping of the bone under the gums or a combination of both. I advise you to seek a consultation with a periodontist (gum specialist) to assess your gums and plan the best treatment for you. Over the years I have treated patients in Spain, USA, Sweden and now in the UK. The approach to treat your problem is similar in all those places. I am confident that you will be able to get what you need in Canada.
