I’ve Been On Anti-Depressants And My Gums Have Turned Milky White. Have You Heard Of This Before?

Hello Dr Mitsas. I’m having a bit of a problem, as ever since taking anti-depressants I have noticed that my gums are turning a milky white colour, only around the front of the mouth and they do bleed slightly. Can this type of medication have an effect like this on my gums? It just seems a bit of a coincidence that this is happening as I’m taking the medication. Is there anything you can suggest please? Thank you for your time.
Hello and thank you for getting in touch with me. I don’t know which medication you are taking but it could possibly be the case. I would advise you to speak to your dentist about this and if they suggest anything to follow up with your GP to explain and see if they can give you anything else. If you would like more help and information about gum disease and how to prevent it you can find this out through this website. I would need to see you in person to fully diagnose your situation. I hope this helps. Best wishes Dr Dimitrios Mitsas.
