Q.
Hi I have been told that I have the start of gum disease and my teeth are starting to separate, probably due the recession of the gums, I have now started seeing my hygienist every three months I was just wondering if there was anything else I could do myself at home or wherever to help the situation along or will this just continue to occur regardless

The good news is that Gum disease can be well controlled, particularly when it is treated at an early phase. Your dentist and hygienist can monitor your progress and assess if the treatment and maintenance that you receive is working or needs to be changed. The success in arresting the problem will very much depend on the quality of your home care and professional support so brushing technique amongst other issues for example your dentist/hygienist will be able to show you this if necessary.
