I have white spots on my gums. What are they?

Q.
Doctor I was alarmed to find that I have white spots on my gums! they have appeared over the last few weeks or so. I first noticed them nearly a month ago but thought the few that were visible were just shallow bits of gum if you get me, you know just lighter parts and whatnot. anyway since then I noticed a few more, and a few more and now they are scattered all over the gums but concentrated on the inside bottom left! they have started to appear on the part of the tongue that meets this area of gum. I’m really worried, does this mean I have gum disease- or even mouth cancer!? At first I thought they were like tufts of fungus so I tried rubbing them off but they’re actual spots, they’re only tiny but in clusters. any help would be hugely appreciated.
