I have always had healthy gums, so why all of a sudden do I have pain and swelling?

Q.
Hi there dr jose, the other day I had a sudden localized swelling in lower gingiva, yet I have no history of trauma or gum disease and have always had healthy gums. Yet I have one tooth that is very tender, this is associated with swelling which filled with blood only after the second day, is there a diagnosis that you could give me or any advice to get rid of it and prevent it coming back? thanks for your time

Your symptoms may be related to a number of causes and my advice is to request a clinical examination from your dentist to identify the extent of the problem. It may be a temporary gingivitis that will resolve easily with adequate cleaning, personal and/or professional, but it can also be a sign of a more significant problem affecting the supporting tissues or a developing abscess. But only a professional examination will be able to give you the precise diagnosis.
