A significant degree of bone remodeling in the extraction area will occur over the 4-6 months after an extraction, this is quite noticeable around the neighboring teeth. However, if the gums are swollen and sore, there must be something else. Improving your oral hygiene is of great importance but you need to be sure there isn’t pocket formation (gum disease) around these. In that case, a combination of deep clean under local anesthesia and improved oral hygiene will bring more definitive relief. I advice you to consult with your dentist about the general condition of your gums. If in doubt consult a Specialist Periodontist for a 2nd opinion.
