I’m at uni and will struggle to visit a dentist, but what is this red thing on my gum?

September 20th, 2011
Q.

I’m 18 went to the dentist less then a month ago said maybe signs of gum disease so went through oral health advise etc with me. Now I have a sore below my front tooth the area surrounding it is slightly red and swollen. However the rest of my gums arent swollen and red, and I havent been experiencing bleeding when brushing. I suffer regularly from ulcers which is what the sore looks like however it is the position and the fact its not stinging like a normal ulcer which is worrying me. I’m at uni where it is extremly difficult to get to see a NHS dentist, I know its best to catch it first but I go back home and can see my regular dentist in December can I wait if there are no more developments and keep practising really good oral hygiene-floss, brush properly, mouthwash

Can my sore gums affect my unborn baby?

July 20th, 2011
Q.

Hello Dr,
please could you give me some advice, I have always looked after my teeth, brushed twice a day, floss and used mouth wash and never had a problem, but as soon as I got pregnant my gum began to become sore and now iam 7months gone they’ve started to bleed. Please could you tell me why this is happening, how to stop it and if it will affect my unborn baby? thanks for this
