I have a peasize, painless lump next to my crown, what is it and should I be worried?

Q.
Hello, Ian! I really hope you can clarify my problem. I have a lump/pea size just above my side crown. It appeared about a week ago. It is not painful but bothers me anyway. The crown was put there recently – 3 weeks ago. Do you know what it could be, it is really bothering me?
Thank you very much
A.
Hi thanks for your question and I’m sorry to hear about your problem. There a many reasons why you may have a lump on your gum at the side of your crown. A number of tests are required including x-rays and vitality tests to allow a dentist to make a diagnosis but it should be fairly straight forward. Please speak to you dentist about the problem but things it could be are:

1) Nerve dying off leading to a dental abscess
2) Sign of gum problems and a lateral periodontal abscess
3) Something stuck under the gum causing and reaction and localised swelling. Hope this Helps, Ian Dunn
