Is a deep root surface clean a good idea or unnecessary?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

He there Dr. I’m sure I have gum disease of some form. I have looked around at treatments which as you know vary from cleaning properly to having a deep rooth surface clean and/or even surgery. What I want to know is if I don’t have full on gum disease would it still be advisable to have a deep clean under local anesthesia at some point to make sure I keep it at bay or will this do damagae to the gums in local areas?? I’m a little stuck and perhaps just trying to tread carefully.

In your opinion would you say that I have gum disease?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Good day,

I have being having bleeding gums for a very long time when ever I brush and have something like blisters that come inside my mouth once in a while and my gums are not pink in colour and most parts of it are red and due to a commercial I saw recently, I have reasonable cause to believe I have gum disease.

I want to find out ifthese symptoms is a sign of this disease of its just anxiety that the commercial was referring to me because I really never took notice of it and paid little attention to it until yesterday when the bleeding continued when I was brushing and when the wound seemed to have healed,I started feeling the pains again.

I had gingivitis and now it think I don’t? How much damage could have been caused in 12 months?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi I used to have gingivitis for a fact I know this as my dentist told me, I then did not visit the dentist for a number of years due a complication of many things including my own negligence. I am not sure whether this then developed into full on gum disease as my gums would spontaneously just begin to bleed anywhere. I would often wake up having bits of dried blood on my teeth from where this had happened in the night. this went on for some time, about a year. I know in hindsight it shouldn’t have gone that far and I should have had It sorted but I then managed myself to fight this and it happened less and less, I recently had them cleaned at the dentist properly and they are looking very good now, pink and never bleed. I was just wondering how much damage could gum disease have caused in 12months and what would the long term effect be?

I am a smoker and have two wobbly front teeth that need to be extracted, what options do I have?

February 14th, 2012
Q.

I was a patient under Newcastle Dental Hospital for a year before being told recently by my own dentist that I have no option but to lose my wobbling two front teeth (with others to follow within a few years) due to gum recession and bone loss. I have had periodontal disease for years even though I have good oral hygiene (I do smoke though). What options would you suggest to a patient presenting with my problem? Many thanks!

Is it at all possible that flossing could result in tooth gaps?

February 8th, 2012
Q.

Hi I have started flossing but have a gap between my teeth(front teeth)..I thought this was initially die to gum disease but it doesnt appear to be the case, I was wondering if flossing widens the gap b/w all my teeth. I am a little concerned over this. Apparantely my son is having the same pattern of teeth structure as i have and some millimeters out which is not visible to a normal eye. Please suggest what to do about the former and the later issues. Is it good to get my son habitual to flossing at a very early age. P.s.: My son will complete his 3 years in january. My husband also has gap b/w his front teeth and a little bit inclined outwards. If it is gum diseasedoes that mean that my son will be likley to have it or is it not hereditory?
