Why have my gums started to bleed?

Q.
Hi

i have always been really good at keeping my teeth and mouth clean through what I think is proper dental hygiene practice ( brushing twice a day, fluoride mouthwash and flossing) but i have recently started noticing an increase in blood when i am brushing my teeth and this is worrying me greatly. is it possible that i am brushing too hard ony my gums and this is the root of the problem? or do you think i could have underlying gum disease? should I go and see my dentist, I feel like I’l be wasting his time though.   thanks for reading and any help you can give me would be greatly valued

Hello. Thank you for your questions. If you bleed when you brush your teeth you probably have areas where the gums are inflamed. Healthy gums do not bleed even with vigorous brushing. You should see your dentist and request a clinical examination to identify any potential presence of gum disease.
