My Gum Disease Has Returned. Should I Go With BOST Treatment Or Stick With My Periodontist’s Advice?

March 24th, 2014
Q.

Dear Dr Mitsas. I have just been diagnosed with a second flare up of moderate gum disease after successfully clearing up my first infection 8 years ago.
I have visited my hygienist regularly every three months since my first infection and was always told that my cleaning was excellent and I was all clear. Suddenly after a 12 month period of very high stress I was told by my dentist during a check up 2 months ago that the disease had returned.
I have been advised by my periodontist to have non-surgical cleaning asap.
Would you advise the BOST gum treatment over my periodontists conventional non surgical cleaning method? Thank you and kind regards.

I Suffer From Depression And Would Like To Know If Stress Can Impact On Overall Oral Health?

January 13th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr. Dunn, recently I have been suffering from severe depression. I have always maintained the best oral hygiene but noticed that my gums are bleeding when I brush them now. Can stress actually have an impact on your oral health? Do you think it could be something to do with the medication I have been prescribed? My gums also appear to be quite red, I don’t know what course of action I could take, do you have any advice for me? Thanks for your time.

Is there a way to stop gums from receding?

June 12th, 2012
Q.

My boyfriend is having a spot of trouble with his teeth and gums! I was just doing some research to find out what might be the problem and I came across this website. His gums seem to be receding on a few of his teeth top and bottom. He says they can become very sensitive sometimes but other times not. Is there a way to stop the gums from receding, or can you get a treatment for it? Will the gums grow back? He does brush and floss but he smokes, that probably hasn’t helped. Got any advice? Thanks Jose!

As a chef my my mouth’s health is in constant doubt, what should I do?

March 13th, 2012
Q.

Hello Dr Zurdo I am a thirty four year old who has been working as a chef for about twelve years now. In many ways it has ruined me whilst making me! I have put on a lot of weight indeed! and feel this has moved my teeth about and crowded them a fair bit. also with all the sugars involved (natural salts and sugars in foods as well as the white & brown condiments/ingredients) my gums have been hit hard along with a few teeth that needed filling. My gums don’t bleed but I think that’s due to my carefulness around them when brushing, but there is some slight inflammation and a bit of tenderness in areas (not everywhere) this has only recently come to light and I want to know if this is gum disease or not? and what can be done. stay safe..
