I Am Looking For A Practice Which Offers BOST Treatment. Do You Know Of Any?

July 17th, 2014
Q.

Hi. Do you know of any practice that does BOST treatment? I have sore gums and have had different diagnosis from 4 different professionals including 2 dentists, 1 mouth specialist and 1 periodontics practice. I have been recommended for planning by the local periodontic specialist but want to investigate alternatives. The sore gums started about 9 months ago. Some days are worse than others but it is not preventing me from eating etc. I have tried mouthwash provided by my dentist, had antibiotics, 2 scales and polishes and gingigel. Thanks.

I Went For A Standard Scale And Polish The Other Day And My Gums Are Still Bleeding. I Was Wondering If He Did The Right Thing?

March 10th, 2014
Q.

Hi, I went for a standard scale and polish the other day and my gums are still bleeding slightly. My dentist was already aware that I had gum disease and I feel he’s exasperated them now. I was wondering if he did the right thing? Giving me a scale and polish? I feel that he shouldnt have done it just because he was aware of my current situation. Is there anyway I can maybe file for a complaint or something? Would I have grounds to do it? Thanks for your help in advance!

I Would Like To Know If Periodontitis Can Be Cured Or Not?

February 17th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Mitsas. Are there any cures yet for periodontis? I was never told by my dentist that I had a problem until she informed me I had this disease. I was never told about gingivitis or any other problem and have been with the same dentist for 5 years. My teeth have bled whilst cleaning on occasions but not very often. I have only lost one back tooth and I am 65 years of age. I now visit a different dentist every three months or so for a clean, he has never x-rayed my mouth. I hope you can help.

I Don’t Think My Dentist Scales My Teeth Right. I’m Trying To Stop My Gums From Receding. What Can I Do?

January 27th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Mitsas. I have gum disease and my gums have receded exposing some root and they occasionally bleed. I use corsodyl mouthwash and colgate pro gum health toothpaste. My dentist tells me that my gums are healthy? He recommended using an interdental brush to floss with.  When he scales them he only does the front teeth which I don’t think is right. I feel film on back teeth but I don’t like to say. Is this correct? Also, what treatments are available for gum disease as I am doing all I can brushing wise but my gums obviously aren’t that healthy as they recede. I would appreciate some advice, many thanks.

My Dentist Was Inconsiderate Over My Gum Disease And I Don’t Think They Did Enough. What Do You Suggest I Do?

October 28th, 2013
Q.

I have been informed I have gum disease I’m feeling really down about it to be honest. I felt like the dentist was quite inconsiderate about it, and recommended a scale and a polish and to purchase an electric tooth brush and floss. Surely if I have a disease then I need further treatment? I went to the dentist as I was in the process of eating and there was a stone in my food which I had purchased from a supermarket, my tooth bit into the stone and has made the tooth quite loose at the back. I thought by going to the dentist she would be able to fix it or give me good advice, but instead asked me if I wanted it removed? Maybe my expectations were high but I thought she would try to fix my tooth not the choice of removal or just leave it loose? Thanks so much in advance.

I had gingivitis in the past, I then had a scale and polish and it seems to have cleared the problem. Is there a way I can tell if the gingivitis has been completly destroyed?

April 20th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr. I have read on this site that gum disease is not reversible or curable by cleaning, and that gingivitis is. I definatley had gingivitis as my dentist told me. I then had a scale and polish and have brushed well. I was wondering how I could tell or if indeed I could that the gingivitis had been destroyed. My teeth no longer bleed or anything- not even when brushing? But some space did open up between my teeth where the little point of gum used to be (I dont think these spaces are getting bigger). Could this be the sign of more underlying problem or am I now OK would you say? I kow it’s not ideal given that you can’t see me but what would you think? thanks

Is gum disease curable considering I attend regular dental visits?

March 30th, 2012
Q.

I recently visited my dentist and she spoke to me about gum disease. When she was talking about my gums she mentioned stage 2 and stage 3. How do the stages of gum disease work and is gum disease reversible? Does this mean my teeth will fall out? I do brush my teeth twice daily, use mouth wash and a tooth pick. I visit my dentist every 6 months and have regular scrapes and polishes. Can vitamin tablets help? I know it’s a lot but thanks anyway

Is a deep root surface clean a good idea or unnecessary?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

He there Dr. I’m sure I have gum disease of some form. I have looked around at treatments which as you know vary from cleaning properly to having a deep rooth surface clean and/or even surgery. What I want to know is if I don’t have full on gum disease would it still be advisable to have a deep clean under local anesthesia at some point to make sure I keep it at bay or will this do damagae to the gums in local areas?? I’m a little stuck and perhaps just trying to tread carefully.
