In your opinion would you say that I have gum disease?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Good day,

I have being having bleeding gums for a very long time when ever I brush and have something like blisters that come inside my mouth once in a while and my gums are not pink in colour and most parts of it are red and due to a commercial I saw recently, I have reasonable cause to believe I have gum disease.

I want to find out ifthese symptoms is a sign of this disease of its just anxiety that the commercial was referring to me because I really never took notice of it and paid little attention to it until yesterday when the bleeding continued when I was brushing and when the wound seemed to have healed,I started feeling the pains again.

I had gingivitis and now it think I don’t? How much damage could have been caused in 12 months?

February 17th, 2012
Q.

Hi I used to have gingivitis for a fact I know this as my dentist told me, I then did not visit the dentist for a number of years due a complication of many things including my own negligence. I am not sure whether this then developed into full on gum disease as my gums would spontaneously just begin to bleed anywhere. I would often wake up having bits of dried blood on my teeth from where this had happened in the night. this went on for some time, about a year. I know in hindsight it shouldn’t have gone that far and I should have had It sorted but I then managed myself to fight this and it happened less and less, I recently had them cleaned at the dentist properly and they are looking very good now, pink and never bleed. I was just wondering how much damage could gum disease have caused in 12months and what would the long term effect be?

My gums are tender and bleed from time to time, do I have gum disease?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

hello there I have a question for you please, when considering the symptoms that you see everywhere on the web with respect also to this website, of gum disease. is there any other symptoms to look for? my gums are really tender and bleed if they are caught awkwardly with a brush or sharp bit of an apple even for example. I wanted to know if this could mean that I have gum disease I know that bleeding gums is one of the common signs of gum disease and I did ask if there was anything else I should look out for but this is because I do not have any of the other symptoms so I wanted to just look out for any other signs if there were any indeed. if there isn’t does this simply mean that I am at not at an advanced stage of gum disease? thank you for any response.

How long does it take to get rid of gingivitis?

November 28th, 2011
Q.

Hi Dr.- I was told a few years ago by my hygienist that I had gingivitis. back then I was in my first year at college and constantly had problems with my gums randomly bleeding without provocation/irritation. It happened once when I was riding my moped, I had to pull over and swill water and wait until it stopped. anyway after that, unwittingly i didnt visit the dentist for a further two years (four college/academic years). This was my fault as I had serious concerns over my future and didnt think for anything other than college and Uni etc. anyway I have very little problems with my gums, they rarely bleed now which has to be good, they look better. I had stepped up my oral hygiene a bit and they hygeinist the other week said that I just had a bit of mild inflammation around one tooth which I can get rid of easily and will keep up dental appointments, what I want to know is how long does it take to get rid of gum disease? based on what you yourself have treated? cheers

If gum disease is hereditary is there anyway I cannot get it?

October 21st, 2011
Q.

I would like to know if there is anything i can do to help prevent gum disease. I have been told That you can almost inherit gum disease from your parents. that it is the way you and your gums react to the build up of bacteria. the issue is that both my mum and dad have had gingivitis and that have as for as I can remember, always brushed and generally practiced good oral health methods. does this mean that I will get It no matter what? Im 16 now and don’t want to have to go through gum disease. If it is hereditary Is there nothing I can do about it because even brushing to keep off bacteria obviously doesn’t work? I’m generally quite worries about this as they say the second thing someone notices after your eyes is your smile, and having just started college I don’t want to jeopardise that. thanks

I clean and floss everyday yet my gums are bleeding, what can I do?

October 12th, 2011
Q.

I’m only 19 and in the past few days i’ve noticed that my gums bleed when i brush as well as when floss. I always clean my teeth twice a day and floss everyday also. I have also noticed that one of my teeth appears to have gotten longer but i havn’t ever really paid attention to/noticed it before so i dont know if this has been sudden or not.
Is this likely to result in gum disease or is it more likely that i brush my teeth too hard day in day out?!

My gums have started to bleed at the slightest touch. Can I stop it?

September 27th, 2011
Q.

Hi there, recently my gums have started to bleed under the smallest bit of pressure. So even eating foods like apples or pears can cause them to do this. Could there be any reasons apart from the obvious gum disease? Is there anything I can do to stop it? thanks for your time

My gums have gone black and are falling off, help?

August 16th, 2011
Q.

A small part of my gums have gone black and has fallen away from my tooth, it’s attached by a little remaining piece of gum, but it bleeds whenever I touch it. Although it does not hurt but is very noticeable and annoying to say the least. The part that is black is numb ans I cant feel anything so half the time Iam tempted just to cut it off. I know that I do have gum disease and have not been to the dentist for many years and a few of my teeth have broken. I am finding it difficult to find the courage to go to a dentist because I am embarrased by the way I have neglected my teeth but I am geting to a point where I dont think I have much time left to fix the problem, I would very much like your opinion on what I should do next. Thanks
