Around my upper left teeth my gums seem swollen, they are not painful but is this gum disease?

October 12th, 2012
Q.

Hi,
I notice small swollens on my gum on the upper left teeth. Which i did not even feel until my finger goes into my mouth. It is not painful except i touched it hard with my finger . It never gives any discomfort whatsoever. Is it an infection or gum disease. What treatment do you recommend.
I brush my teeth regularly and has been taken my hygiene seriously. Though i have a tooth removed due to absceess two years ago . Since then i have seen the dentist for general checking and cleaning. And it has been ok. But few days ago i was trying to remove some reminanant of food from the corner of my mouth and suddenly notice swollen which was painless except touched very hard. I do not normally feel anything except i put my finger in my mouth. It has not cause me any pain what soever . I feel like the swollen is gradually subsiding but i still feel i should see the dentist because the teeth is due for cleaning as well.

The gum on my lower lip is coming away from my teeth, it’s painful to talk and eat and my teeth feel loose, is this treatable?

June 29th, 2012
Q.

The bit of my gum that is connected to my lower lip is severely coming away from my teeth. It did bleed when I brushed my teeth, but doesn’t anymore. However, it is extremely painful to talk and eat and is sore even when my mouth is closed. My teeth around this area are also slightly loose, and I have a constant bad taste in my mouth. I am fairly sure that it is gum disease but I was wondering if this is treatable, because I have read that if it gets too severe then the effects are irreversible

Are gum disease and diabetes linked?

May 18th, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Dunn, I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes around 1 year ago which was a big shock. I have heard a few times that gum disease and diabetes are linked somehow? Do you know anything about this? My gums are very red and sore, bleeding occasionally but I have good hygiene in my mouth, clean 2 times a day and floss!! Is there any special medicine or toothpaste I can take for my problems? or what do you suggest? Cheers thank you Ian.

I think I spent a long time with Gingivitis. My Dentist and Hygienist did not mention anything, since then I have exercised excellent oral hygiene, my gums look and feel better, have I fixed the problem?

April 19th, 2012
Q.

Mr Dunn I have a question for you please. I think I have periodontal/gum disease as I spent a lot of time with gingivitis where my gums would just bleed without being brushed and so on. I am not sure and have since seen my dentist. she did not mention anything just ummed and ahhed for a bit before referring me to the hygienist (which I was expecting as it was sometime since I had been). the hygienist also did not mention anything and after the scale and polish there was some minor bleeding .I have since exercised excellent oral hygiene and am due back in April. My gums now seem to be fine and don’t bleed at all, ever and aren’t nice and pink. Is it possible that I could have treated it or is it something that ‘needs’ to be fixed in another way and could still be eating away at me? thank you for your time and I’m sorry for the long question I just needed to explain fully my situation.

I am worried the condition of my gums would prevent the option of braces. Is there any way to check this?

April 13th, 2012
Q.

Hi. I have been worried about my gums for a long time. they used to bleed when I brushed but they don’t any more. the thing is I have crooked teeth and wanted to have a brace but I am scared that my gums health will not allow this. Does the fact that I had/have something wrong with my gums mean itll be easier to contract again or not? And Is there anyway I can check to see If I have a gum problem and can it directly affect me getting brace treatment? thank you

How do I stop my gums spontaneously bleeding and doing so at night?

March 30th, 2012
Q.

HI Mr Dunn, I’m currently half way through my second year at college and am seventeen. I’ve been having a few problems with my gums recently and whilst trying to research I found this site. I worried about my gums as I now think I may have gum disease. on occasion my gums bleed for no reason just spontaneously some times, it did it the other day in class which was really embarrassing. I have had to pull over on the bike when it’s done it and there’s always blood on my teeth in the mornings. what is this and how do I stop it?

Could my crowded teeth be causing gum problems?

March 5th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I’m 20 years old. I have both my bottom wisdom teeth through which I think have pushed my teeth forward which has caused the very front middle one to come all the way forward on it own, the two teeth either side of it almost touch, my gum bleeds every now and again, I can go days without it bleeding then at any random time it’ll bleed quite bad where I have to spit it out at least 4 times or more! could it be gum disease causing the bleeding?

thanks

I have a sore area of gum above one tooth that bleeds when I brush. Why is this?

March 5th, 2012
Q.

Hi, the area of gum over one of my teeth is sore when I brush it. It also seems to have receded slightly. It is only the area of gum over my upper left cuspid tooth, it tends to bleed slightly when I am brushing it as well. Should I be worried about this? I am concerned that because it bleeds every time I brush it will not get a chance to heal. My next dentist appointment is not until april and i am wondering if I should bring it forwards.
