Is There An Alternative To Flap Surgery Which Is Less Painful?

I am 38 years old and have gum disease. My teeth are healthy but my gums are not. I now several ‘pockets’ and receding gums. I also now have a loose back tooth. I am desperate to see if someone can be done. I have searched lots of things on the internet. I do not really want ‘flap’ surgery as it sounds quiet traumatic! I understand that I could have laser treatment or BOST? Please could you let me know your opinion on the best treatment available? Thank you for taking the time to listen to me.

My Gums Have Turned White And Gone Hard At The Bottom Ever Since I Started On The Contraceptive Pill. Could This Be Related?

Hi Dr Mitsas. I know you may not know a lot about this but you’ll probably get this a lot so maybe you will! I have recently gone onto the contraceptive pill and since my gums have turned hard at the bottom and turned almost white in colour. They have been bleeding a small amount too. I don’t think this is a coincidence, it happened very shortly after I got my prescription. Can you please advise tell me if this is something you’ve come across before? Thank you for your time!

I Would Like To Know If Periodontitis Can Be Cured Or Not?

Hello Dr Mitsas. Are there any cures yet for periodontis? I was never told by my dentist that I had a problem until she informed me I had this disease. I was never told about gingivitis or any other problem and have been with the same dentist for 5 years. My teeth have bled whilst cleaning on occasions but not very often. I have only lost one back tooth and I am 65 years of age. I now visit a different dentist every three months or so for a clean, he has never x-rayed my mouth. I hope you can help.

My Gums Have Begun To Bleed After Using A Teeth Whitening Kit. I Smoke Also. Should I Be Worried?

Hello Dr Mitsas, I recently ordered a tooth whitening kit for use at home and it did say under side effects that my gums could become sensitive, which I anticipated. However, my gums are actually bleeding. But I do smoke, so do you think that this could be the reason as to why they’re bleeding? I just think it’s a bit of a coincidence that as soon as I begin whitening my teeth they start to bleed and I’ve never heard of this happening to anybody else before, what do you think? Hello Dr Mitsas I hope you can help me. I have recently stopped smoking and have been doing very well. I’ve always visited hygienists and dentists as often as I could because of this as I still wanted to maintain good oral health. However, I’ve noticed that since stopping that my gums are bleeding. It’s only a few spots here and there so do you think I should be concerned about this and what would you recommend I do about this? Thank you for your time.

I Don’t Think My Dentist Scales My Teeth Right. I’m Trying To Stop My Gums From Receding. What Can I Do?

Hi Dr Mitsas. I have gum disease and my gums have receded exposing some root and they occasionally bleed. I use corsodyl mouthwash and colgate pro gum health toothpaste. My dentist tells me that my gums are healthy? He recommended using an interdental brush to floss with.  When he scales them he only does the front teeth which I don’t think is right. I feel film on back teeth but I don’t like to say. Is this correct? Also, what treatments are available for gum disease as I am doing all I can brushing wise but my gums obviously aren’t that healthy as they recede. I would appreciate some advice, many thanks.

I Have Two False Teeth And When I Brush My Mouth Sometimes Bleeds Uncontrollably. Have My False Teeth Not Healed After Two Years?

Hi. I have two false teeth due to no teeth being/growing there at all either side of my front teeth which are capped onto the teeth either side one of the false teeth of which is causing concern. It bleeds a lot whilst brushing sometimes it can fill my mouth uncontrollably and other times it’ll be very little blood it always tastes of blood and the gum above is of different colour to my others. I brush regularly and use mouthwash and I’d like to know what could this be? I’ve always worried that when I had them my gum was cut and burnt away to allow room for the false tooth that it was damaged and never really healed as I’ve had them for two years now?

Hi Dr. Dunn, recently I have been suffering from severe depression. I have always maintained the best oral hygiene but noticed that my gums are bleeding when I brush them now. Can stress actually have an impact on your oral health? Do you think it could be something to do with the medication I have been prescribed? I Have A Small Crack On My Tooth. Is There Any Chance This Could Be Down To Gum Recession?

Hi Dimitrios. I have a horizontal line (possibly a crack) on my lower left incisor, just above the gum line. It has recently been very sensitive to cold drinks. Could this be linked to gum recession? Or due to a cracked tooth? The crack is at the front of the tooth, not the back as far as I an tell. The ridge or crack is barely visible, but I can feel it if I run my nail over it. I have a dentist appointment next week, but I am worried about leaving it so long.

I Had A Root Canal And My Remaining Tooth Fell Out. A Hole Has Appeared. Why?

Hi Dr Mitsas. I lost my back molar some time ago due to the tooth breaking in half after a while the tooth became painful and the dentist did root canal, however the left over remains of the tooth fell out and in the space where the tooth was a hole has developed in the gum. The gum is now wearing down and the hole is getting deeper and wider. The teeth either side of the hole seem fine and the gum does not hurt and is not inflamed or discoloured in anyway. What do I do about the hole and why has it formed what can I do to stop the gum from wearing away? Thank you for your time. I hope you can offer your advice.
