My Wisdom Tooth Is Causing Me Agony And Painkillers Aren’t Working. What Should I Do?

Q.
Hello Dr Dunn, I hope you can help me. I’m 17 years old and my wisdom teeth are coming through and have been for around six months now. They’re incredibly painful and causing me so much discomfort I can’t stand it anymore! It’s really affecting my whole life as I don’t want to go out because of the pain I’m in and it’s no use taking pain medication because it doesn’t work! Can you give me any advice on how to deal with them?! Thank you for your advice.
A.
They may need to be removed as the pain sounds like it might be caused by them decaying below the gum line. This in turn may cause an abscess or infection. Please seek out dental help as soon as possible. If your dentist only recommendation is to take painkillers then go to someone else and explain the pain and ask why this is. It is difficult for me as I don’t have you in front of me, but the pain will unlikely go away. I hope you seek help for this problem, Best of luck, Dr Ian Dunn.
