My teeth really hurt but I don’ have a NHS dentist help?

Q.
I am a 27-year-old single mother with periodontal gum disease. My teeth are in really bad shape, and the pain is excruciating. I haven’t got a NHS dentist and I am on a very tight budget. I know that there’s nothing I can do to save my teeth, but could you please let me know if there’s anything I can do to just reduce the amount of pain I’m in? Everyday’s getting harder, and I’m at the end of my rope. I don’t mean to sound so desperate, but I guess I am. I would appreciate any advice you could give.

I am sorry to hear you are having so many problems. Based on the information you have given, I feel you have two realistic options to get the treatment you need.

Your first option is to call NHS direct on 0845 4647 and ask about NHS dentists in your area taking on new patients. There are some areas of the country where dentists are actively looking for new patients.

Secondly, if you live in or near a major city with a teaching hospital, you could look to see if they would take you on for treatment by one of the dental students. This would give you free treatment but it would be carried out by a dental student under the direct supervision of a senior dentist.

I would encourage you to seek help as soon as possible to relieve you dental pain.

Best of luck with your treatment.
