My Gums Keep Bleeding And All My Dentist Tells Me Is To Change My Brush. But It Isn’t Working? What Else Can I Do?

Q.
Hello Doctor Dunn, I’m 27 years old and I had noticed over the last few months that my teeth been bleeding when ever I have brushed them. They’re not particularly sore at all they just bleed. So I went to my dentist and he told me to change my brush to a softer one. I went back after 6 weeks with the bleeding not any better and my dentist then told me I was brushing too hard. My teeth are bleeding and changing my brush or softening my brushing technique is not making a difference. Is my dentist right or is there something else I can do about this. I’m concerned that it may progress to gum disease. Thank you.

Hello and thank you for writing in. You should try mouthwash to see if this makes a difference, if nothing changes have a look into seeing a gum disease expert and hygienist as it my be a hereditary problem you need to get to the root of. Do you have a good oral health routine or is there a problem with your diet which may cause this? If you are not happy with your dentist’s opinion seek another consultation.
