My Gums Bleed And Are Inflamed, What Treatment Do I Need?

Q.
Hi I think I have gum disease my gums at the back are inflamed and bleed when I brush, when I lift the flap of my mouth up its a little purple. i have never had trouble before. I have made a routine dental appointment for next week it’s been around 2 years since I last went to the dentist when you look online it scares you. My gums have a white rim below them as well. What sort of procedure would be used to help treat this

Please help.

Hi.The fact that your gums bleed very often indicates possible inflammation of your gums.I would advise you to visit your dentist to assess you and if the diagnosis is periodontitis (especially severe forms of the disease) you may need to be referred for a detailed assessment from a periodontist. If your mother has been diagnosed with periodontitis, there is a higher possibility that you may be genetically predisposed to the periodontal disease. Also if you have any health problems like uncontrolled diabetes or you are smoking, you belong to a higher risk group in relation to development of periodontitis.
