My Gum Bleeds When I Put Pressure On Parts Of My Mouth. Is This Gum Disease?

Q.
Hi Dr Mitsas, My gum bleeds if I put pressure on parts of my mouth. I brush my teeth everyday but there is blood when I brush my teeth. Is this a sign of gum disease?
Is there anything that you would recommend to prevent this happening? I know that there are mouthwashes and certain toothpastes that can help prevent gum disease. I try to brush my teeth twice a day, but if I’m honest, I only brush once.
Thank you for taking the time to read this email.
Kind regards.

Hello and thank you for contacting me. I would suggest for you to seek a consultation from a dentist to determine if you have gum disease or not. Bleeding gums is indeed a sign of gum disease and this would need to be determined in your case. Your dentist or periodontist will provide you with mouthwash etc. To prevent tooth loss and a host of oral health problems, you should maintain a strict oral health regime. You should brush and floss twice every day. I hope this helps. Best wishes, Dr Mitsas.
