My Upper Gums Are Bleeding Quite Badly. Has This Gone Worse Because I’m Wearing Braces?

Hi Dr Mitsas, I hope you can help me. I had a brace fitted 3 years ago because I had very crooked teeth and it’s still on. I’ve got slight gum disease, is this made worse with braces? My upper gums are receding quite badly. I’m just inquiring to see if there’s anything that can be done about this? If so I’d just like a rough guideline on costs? What would the procedure involve? I look forward to hearing an experts opinion on this matter. Thank you for your input in advance.

My gums are receding even though I maintain good oral health, why is this happening?

Hi Jose,

I had had good oral health all through my life, don’t drink sugary drink clean and mouthwash at least twice a day, not had any fillings or cracked teeth. I just had a brace when I was 16.I’ve noticed recently that the gum above my canine is receding a bit. Its not sensitive yet but i was just wondering if this is a big problem and can it be fixed? or what should i do? surely brushing my teeth more wont make the skin grow back? my gums dont look sore or rotten either? what do you think? Thanks!

I am worried the condition of my gums would prevent the option of braces. Is there any way to check this?

Hi. I have been worried about my gums for a long time. they used to bleed when I brushed but they don’t any more. the thing is I have crooked teeth and wanted to have a brace but I am scared that my gums health will not allow this. Does the fact that I had/have something wrong with my gums mean itll be easier to contract again or not? And Is there anyway I can check to see If I have a gum problem and can it directly affect me getting brace treatment? thank you

What should I do about a torn gum?

Hi Dr Zurdo, as i have been brushing my teeth i noticed a deep cut on my lower jaw from my gum. this tear is quite bad as the gum is hanging off my bottom front two teeth. it is not paining whatsoever however i am worried about what i should do or what it is? i also have braces and one of my brackets have peirced into my gum. please help me and advise on what i should do about this.
