My Wisdom Tooth Is Causing Me Agony And Painkillers Aren’t Working. What Should I Do?

December 16th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Dunn, I hope you can help me. I’m 17 years old and my wisdom teeth are coming through and have been for around six months now. They’re incredibly painful and causing me so much discomfort I can’t stand it anymore! It’s really affecting my whole life as I don’t want to go out because of the pain I’m in and it’s no use taking pain medication because it doesn’t work! Can you give me any advice on how to deal with them?! Thank you for your advice.

My Gums Are Receding And It’s Affecting My Smile. Is This Because I’m Pregnant?

December 9th, 2013
Q.

Hi. My gums are receding only at the top of my canines and its making the rest of my smile look horrible. I feel a gum graft is a little too extreme for my circumstances so can you recommend anything to at least slow down the process? It seems to have gotten a lot worse since becoming pregnant. I’ve spoken to my dentist who has told me to avoid brushing too harshly but I don’t think that’s the problem. Thank you for your time and help in advance!

Hello Dr Zurdo, I’m Brushing 3 Times A Day And Flossing In Between Meals. Should I Be Concerned?

December 2nd, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Zurdo, I hope you can help me. For one reason or another, over the past 2-3 months or so, I haven’t been looking after my teeth as well as I usually do. Still brushing but sometimes only once a day and not for very long. My gums have started to bleed when I brush them which has shocked me back into my old oral health regime. I’m brushing them 3 times a day and flossing in between meals and using mouth wash. But my teeth are still bleeding and my gums are red round my gum line and I’m convinced that my gums have started to recede on the bottom set of teeth. Does this sound like gum disease? Or just a lapse in oral health. Any advice you can give me would be great. Thanks, in advance.

My Gums Keep Bleeding And All My Dentist Tells Me Is To Change My Brush. But It Isn’t Working? What Else Can I Do?

November 25th, 2013
Q.

Hello Doctor Dunn, I’m 27 years old and I had noticed over the last few months that my teeth been bleeding when ever I have brushed them. They’re not particularly sore at all they just bleed. So I went to my dentist and he told me to change my brush to a softer one. I went back after 6 weeks with the bleeding not any better and my dentist then told me I was brushing too hard. My teeth are bleeding and changing my brush or softening my brushing technique is not making a difference. Is my dentist right or is there something else I can do about this. I’m concerned that it may progress to gum disease. Thank you.

Can You Tell Me If I Can Completely Cure My Periodontal Disease?

November 18th, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Mitsas. I have periodontal and I’m currently getting treatment, I have bad breath too. Does the disease completely cure after treatment and does the bad breath ever go away completely?

I have also read here that you brush after breakfast, I do brush as soon as I get out of bed then have my breakfast and after about an hour I use my mouthwash before I leave the house? Is this wrong, should I first have breakfast then brush my teeth? I hope you can help me with this problem.

I’m Finding It Very Hard To Prevent Gum Disease, Can You Tell Me If I Can Get Treated Through The NHS?

November 11th, 2013
Q.

I recently visited my dentist for my regular check up, unfortunately each time I visit keep I being told that my gums are receding and also the reduction of bone surrounding the teeth have also receded. This despite my diligence in brushing/flossing my teeth 2/3 times a day. I have also been told that I could also eventually lose my teeth which I am trying very hard to prevent. I would like to have an assessment to see what can be done to prevent further damage. Can you please advise whether I am able to get my gums treated on the NHS or privately. Thank you for your help and advice.

I’ve Been Told That Nothing Can Be Done About My Gum Disease. Is This Correct?

November 4th, 2013
Q.

I have had terrible pain in the upper and lower right side of my mouth in the gums and teeth for around 3 weeks and have been taking painkillers everyday to alleviate the pain. I have visited my dentist in the beginning and she has booked me in on Tuesday for a deep clean as she says it is tartar build up. I have had it confirmed that I have gum disease but have been told there is nothing that can be done. I am 45, I do not smoke, I brush and floss regularly and use Corsodyl daily. What worries me is that the pain is not confined to one tooth are but is the whole right side go my mouth.

My Dentist Was Inconsiderate Over My Gum Disease And I Don’t Think They Did Enough. What Do You Suggest I Do?

October 28th, 2013
Q.

I have been informed I have gum disease I’m feeling really down about it to be honest. I felt like the dentist was quite inconsiderate about it, and recommended a scale and a polish and to purchase an electric tooth brush and floss. Surely if I have a disease then I need further treatment? I went to the dentist as I was in the process of eating and there was a stone in my food which I had purchased from a supermarket, my tooth bit into the stone and has made the tooth quite loose at the back. I thought by going to the dentist she would be able to fix it or give me good advice, but instead asked me if I wanted it removed? Maybe my expectations were high but I thought she would try to fix my tooth not the choice of removal or just leave it loose? Thanks so much in advance.

Hi Dr Zurdo, I Think I’m Suffering From Gum Disease, Would You Recommend Any Home Remedies?

October 21st, 2013
Q.

Hello Dr Zurdo, I think I’m suffering from gum disease, my gums are sore and starting to bleed. I have had this for a few months now but I didn’t think to much of it until recently. The gums on my top four front teeth have always been a little red but I have noticed this more so recently, also I find myself getting a lot of plaque on these teeth as well. I’m finding that my breath is also starting to smell because of this. I was wondering if there was a cure for this that I could try at home?

I’ve Recently Discovered I Have A Form Of Gum Disease And Wondered If It Can Be Transferred To Other People Through Contact?

October 14th, 2013
Q.

Hi Ian, I’ve just discover that I have a form of gum disease that I can’t remember the name of but it was quite aggressive and I am taking antibiotics for it. My concern is that I have two young children and a wife, I was wondering if my gum disease can be transmitted over from mouth to mouth or from sharing cutlery, etc? I wouldn’t want to transfer anything to anyone so I just wanted to know! Cheers Ian, I hope you can offer your advice on this!
